Some Tips for Fun Learning!

Parents usually complain to teachers that their child or children doesn't want to go to school anymore. Kids always make excuses just for them not to attend school. Maybe parents will ask their child, "What's the problem? You don't like your teacher? How about your classmates? Are you having a hard time with your lessons?" But as we all know, they will answer yes or sort of to those questions. Then we'll assumed.

I've been teaching pre-schoolers and graders for years. As I observed, most of my students have extra activities not less than 4 everyday. They'll wake up early for 7am to 1 pm school activities, eat their lunch, take a nap, go to piano and/or painting lesson, after that, to their ballet schools or basketball training/swimming lessons, then to a tutorial center, and at home before dinner, they'll have their private tutor for school subjects. What a busy pre-schoolers!

We all know that as early as 3 or 4 years old, parents are exposing their child to different activities for them to know where will they excel. But as time goes by, they are forgetting their objectives, that cause their child to hate what they are currently doing.

According to John Lubbock, "The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn."

That's why, as much as possible, I see to it that my students will at least enjoy their time with us at the center. Before we start our session, we talk a little about what happened to school. Actually, after they sit, they will share their recent activities and even the stars they got from that, even without me asking! Then, we will start our lesson. Even our lesson is Math, they enjoy it. During our application drills, I used the numbers of their dolls or cars and robots; their favorite foods; their favorite shows; and even the names of their classmates at school in our problem solving drills.

I read that technique in a book that for kids to appreciate what they are learning, you have to apply it to them first. I always use the "apply to them first" technique than giving of incentives just for them to study. Start from them before you use other things. Go below their level, to their mini world. That's why there are times that they are the one who initiate the learning activities! There are a lot of techniques and methods that you may use for your kids. Surely, they will look forward to learn more things.
